Advent Prayers Sunday Yr C Series
Pastor Series Notes
Advent Prayers.
A worship series based on the epistles lessons for the Sundays of Advent. Lectionary Readings Year C.
During the season of Advent, the church prays, “Come, Lord Jesus.” We look forward to Christ coming at Christmas, and we look forward to his return at the end of the world. The epistle lessons in the season of Advent give direction for our Advent Prayers. What could our prayer life look like this season?
When Jesus comes again at the end of the world, we want to join him in heaven, so we pray for Christ’s holiness. This is why Christ came at Christmas - to give us his righteousness. As we wait for the coming of Jesus, we wait with other believers. Together, we lift up prayers of thankfulness for the partnership that we have with others in the gospel. It’s a partnership built on honest conversations, repentance, and true faith. What are our prayers like this Advent? We’ll see that they are filled with joy! We don’t have to be anxious about anything, but in every situation we can bring our prayers to God. Finally on the last Sunday of Advent, we see a different kind of prayer. This time, it is Christ who is praying. As he prepares to come to this earth to be our Savior and substitute, we get to listen in on a conversation between the Father and the Son. Jesus speaks to the Father about his willingness to come and take on human flesh. Why was this humble baby born? To do the will of God. To sacrifice himself for you. What love! And once again, we are led to pray! Download expanded notes below.

All of the epistle lessons in Year C of the lectionary include prayers or teachings on prayer. As we prepare for the coming of Christ, both at Christmas and at the end of the world, we are led to pray.
