Surprising Truths About Jesus

Surprising Truths About Jesus. A Worship Series for the Season of Epiphany.

Who is Jesus? What was important to him when he walked the earth? If you ask a dozen people, you might get a dozen answers. But when you open up the Gospels, you see that Jesus is a surprising character. He’s not just a good teacher, not just a helpful person, not just a powerful miracle worker. He is so much more. To really understand who Jesus is, we need him to be revealed to us in God’s Word. This season of the church year is called “Epiphany” which means that something is revealed and made clear to us. Throughout this season, we will learn some surprising truths about who Jesus is and what he came to accomplish. Have you ever paused to think about how surprising Jesus is? Even as a baby, he was perceived as a threat to kings. God used a star to lead foreigners to his house. He looked like a normal 30-year-old man, but he was also true God, the chosen one, the judge and Savior of the world. Jesus chose his first miracle to be making more wine. That’s surprising right? If I was authoring this story, I wouldn’t write it like that! Did you know that when Jesus preached one of his first sermons, he made the congregation so mad that they tried to push him off a cliff? He could have ruled the world from his position on earth and gained followers with his miracles, but instead he focused on preaching from town to town. He could have sent angels to spread his message, but instead he chooses sinners like you and me. As we ponder Jesus this Epiphany, he turns our assumptions upside down, all while filling us with comfort, peace, and even love for the unlovable. We look forward to gathering with you as God reveals some surprising truths about Jesus.
