Printable tags can be fun, easy, and convenient, especially once you have a couple basic supplies on hand.  If you enjoy giving handmade gifts, handmade gift packaging is a nice touch.  Printable tags are also helpful if you don't have much on hand.  Upcycle a box, print a tag, and you're all set to go.

Supplies

  • Card stock, typically in white, but feel free to get creative, 8.5x11 size
  • Craft knife (with cutting mat or chipboard underneath)
  • Straight edge ruler
  • Paper hole punch
  • Twine, ribbon, or string

Printing & Cutting Tips

Once you have found some tags you like, whether purchased through an Etsy shop, or downloaded from a blog you discovered through Pinterest, it's time to begin creating!  The key thing when printing is to set your printer to the highest quality settings, onto quality cardstock or paper.  Regular letter sized paper will work great.

Use your straight edge ruler to guide your craft knife for a precise cut.

TIP 1:  Keep your craft knife positioned on the scrap paper side of the ruler, not on the side containing the section of paper that will become your tag.  If your knife moves away from your ruler, you won't be cutting into the artwork.

TIP 2:  Always recap your knife when it isn't in use, keep up and away from children.

Finishing Touches

After trimming your tag, add a hole with your hole punch and tie to your gift box or bag.  I keep a stash of twine on hand, it matches just about everything.  I also enjoy using metallic Sharpies for personalized notes.

Enjoy!
